After reviewing the course syllabus for ENLG F314 Technical Writing, there were a few things that I learned and stuck out to me. I first learned about the course description and what the class would include. I was very hesitant when the course would involve preparing tables, graphs, process descriptions, and grant proposals. Even though I was hesitant at first, I’m actually really looking forward to this course! The second thing that I learned was that the class will involve WordPress, so this is actually my first blog post ever! One of the last things that I learned from reading the syllabus was the policy on revisions. You are free to revise and resubmit up to a week after the assignment was initially due. This policy is quite refreshing, as I tend to be a perfectionist and I want my work to be as good as possible.

I found two things that I had trouble with and it was quite confusing at first. Raindrop.IO is new to me so it took a little bit to understand it. I definitely love the idea of Raindrop being an online portfolio for gathering resources and using it for the future. There’s a lot of different platforms that we will be using during this class and I believe it will take some time to getting used to that. For other classes, I’ve been used to using just Blackboard and possibly one other website to access and partake participation in the class.

The student effort section of the syllabus was kind of an “Ah-Ha” moment for me. It was quite relieving finding out the course load that would be involved. At least nine hours or more should be dedicated towards the course and its assignments.

There are two different topics I hope to cover during this course! I’m hoping to cover resumes and ways to use it in the future to get better techniques for talking to employers. The other topic I was hoping to cover is actually using this blog! I’m really excited to learn how to use WordPress as a portfolio!

From this course, my goals are to improve my grammar, use my online portfolio to use for future job applications, and overall to become more professional when it comes to my writing.
